Captain and Tennille Divorcing

Well… I guess love will not be keeping them together. The famous singing duo known as Captain and Tennille have been married for 39 years. They’re best known for their hits “Muskrat Love” and “Love Will Keep Us Together.” They married in 1975, the year their first album was released.Captain_and_tennille_1976

Toni Tenille filed divorce from the Captain, aka Daryl Dragon, on January 16. The couple is in their 70’s. Divorcing later in life is becoming more common, and it seems like no matter how much they preached it… love couldn’t keep them together. We wish them both the best.

Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie Split

After three years of marriage, the former Disney star and her husband and breaking up. A rep for Hilary Duff states that they remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives.Hilary_Duff_(2009)_2

Reports surfaced in September that the couple was facing marital issues. A source states that there was no drama involved– the couple simply grew apart. They tried therapy to make it work, but reportedly realized that they work better as friends. They have a two-year-old son, Luca Comrie, who they will co-parent. While divorce is unfortunate and challenging, it’s nice to see a celebrity couple face it like adults and put their needs of their child first.

Learning from Celeb Divorces

Typically we talk about celebrity fights, issues or bitter divorces. But recently, two divorcing couples could serve as great examples.375px-Kris_Jenner

Kris Jenner appeared on the TODAY show this week to promote the ninth season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and she spoke very highly of her husband Bruce Jenner (who she split from in October). The two are currently living in separate houses. They are “best friends” still, but life is easier this way. She had nothing but nice things to say about Bruce and stated that this living arrangement is better for the whole family. What can we learn? While it’s easier said than done, bashing your ex is NOT usually a good idea. And it’s much better for the family if you refrain!

Additionally, Jane Lynch, who filed for divorce from Dr. Lara Embry told Larry King that the two will remain friends. However, they’re currently in the midst of spousal support discussions. Lesson? Regardless of the difficulties surrounding divorce proceedings, you CAN remain friends! It takes effort, but it can work.
