Tim Duncan Officially Divorced

Tim Duncan has officially divorced from his wife, Amy Duncan.  The San Antonio Express-News first announced that the couple finalized their divorce in a secret hearing outside of the court.393px-Tim_Duncan

The decision to do a hearing outside of court is because they didn’t want the publicity of being in court.  There has been many stories circulating revolving the infidelity allegations on both parties.  Holding a hearing in court would contribute to the publicity that the couple has regarding their case.  The details of their divorce settlement, including child custody and division of martial assets, are not public.

The state District Judge, David A. Canales, granted the divorce between the Duncans.  It was done during his lunch hour at the offices of Tim Duncan’s lawyer, Sue Hall.  Both lawyers were present for the hearing.  There is a rare occurrence where the judge will do a “home” visit.  Canales noted for a judge to hold an on-the-record- hearing outside of court is not unusual; however, it was the first time he was requested to do such a thing.  Additionally, Judge Canales pointed out that when he receives an agreement in a divorce case, it is not mandatory to give public notice of the hearing.  The Duncans ultimately were able to settle their divorce behind closed doors and hopefully keep the paparazzi out of their hair.

Dwayne Wade- Fully Single

Dwayne Wade is fully embracing his single fatherhood.  His marriage with Siohvaughn Funches-Wade ended in 2010, and in 2011, Wade was given sole custody of their two children.  Wade explains in his book, A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger than Basketball, that fatherhood is most important responsibility to have as a person.  He explains that a father’s responsibility for his children should not be given any additional praise, but should be expected of every father.  Wade believes that there is “no sense to honor ‘him’ for what ‘he’ should be doing in the first place.”  Wade reveals that fatherhood is a “privilege” and shouldn’t be a chore.

Wade supports all fathers to be an integral part of their children’s lives.  There needs to be complete focus on the development of their children or else all the rewards of being a parent will be missed.  His advice to single parents comes straight from his own experience with taking full responsibility of his two kids, Zaire and Zion.  He understands the challenges of being a single parent, but continues to encourage both fathers and mothers to do the best they can raising their children.

Although Wade was awarded sole custody of his kids in 2011, he did not get his request to suspend visitation rights from his ex-wife granted.  He will have to continue allowing their sons to go over to her place to visit.
